When hiring a tile installer, your goal is to find a skilled professional who will transform your carefully chosen tiles into a stunning, durable surface that meets your expectations for both beauty and performance. However, identifying the right installer can be challenging if you’re not familiar with the tile industry, and it’s tempting—but risky—to base your decision solely on the lowest bid.

Certification: Ask if the installer is a Certified Tile Installer (CTI). This credential, awarded by the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation (CTEF), is the only third-party assessment recognized by the industry and demonstrates proven knowledge and hands-on skill.

Experience: Look for someone with at least two to three years of experience as a lead installer working full-time with ceramic tile. Experience as only a helper or in entry-level roles is not sufficient.

References: Request and check references. Ask previous clients about communication, professionalism, punctuality, cleanliness, project completion, and how unexpected issues were handled. If possible, view completed projects in person or through photos to assess the quality of work.

Professional Affiliations: Membership in organizations like the National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA) signals a commitment to industry standards and ongoing education.

Insurance: Ensure the installer is properly licensed and insured for your protection
